My History in Beauty
When I was 8 my Mother, who was 28, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She lost all her hair due to the treatment. I remember her wearing her wigs and drawing on her eyebrows, doing her best to find herself again in the midst of this defacing invasion into her life. She lost her battle with cancer, leaving me, at 11, with lasting memories of her still trying to be pretty.
Fast forward 30 years ….
I was at the Make-Up Counter where I worked when a woman came in for lipstick. I tried to take her lip liner off and couldn’t. That’s when she told me that it was Permanent Make-Up. She then told me that she had had her eyebrows done as well; that it had been really helpful to her after her chemotherapy had caused her natural brows to fall out.
I probably gasped right then and there; that day changed my life.
The idea that eyebrows could be artfully, cosmetically, and permanently tattooed back on to a woman – or to a man, for that matter – would be amazing! From that day forward I began to develop skills in Permanent Make-Up. I have since helped hundreds of women, and men, to look and feel better about themselves and it has been a gift. I think that there are lots of girls who just love make-up. But I think that I have been especially influenced by watching my Mom create herself at such a pivotal time in my life - and hers.
I think it's also important to tell you that I have lost five family members to cancer; my Mother, Rachel Leah; my Paternal Grandmother, Anna Belle; my Cousin Tony; my Great Uncle Samuel, and my Father-in-Law, Ted. I have spent my life as a student of cancer. I consider myself an expert on ways to avoid carcinogens in the home, in your food, and on your body. I cannot promise that 100% of what I use is non-carcinogenic but I research every single ingredient in every single product that I use in my practice and will tell you very openly about harmful ingredients. There may be propylene glycol in a topical anesthetic - but we're only using it on your skin four times in your entire life? That is a reasonable exposure as a means to an end in my opinion. If you then go home and stop using toxic skincare your body will process any of the toxins out that you may occasionally encounter. Just know that I am always looking to do better on your behalf. Always.
It is my belief that Permanent Make-up is far less toxic than traditional make-up. Millions of people have tattoos. Literally Millions, and there are no links to cancers that I have ever been able to find anywhere. And I look. My whole practice is built on the idea that you can look amazing without harming yourself, animals, or the planet. I refuse to look good at the expense of another or to make money doing it either.
I have been in Make-Up Artistry since 1993. I have done stage make-up, runway make-up, bridal make-up, and airbrush make-up as well as Permanent Make-Up. I have taken classes with Jane Iredale, Laura Mercier, Chanel, Paula Dorf, Bobbi Brown, Stila, and more. I have worked in cosmetics for Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Sephora. I trained with Sylvia Pichler at Temptu for high-definition airbrush make-up. I love looking my best - not perfect, I don't think that that is always beautiful - but my best. I learned that from the women in my family.
I am a Florida Licensed Aesthetician and Cosmetologist. I have taken classes for Permanent Make-Up with the American Institute of Intradermal Cosmetics, BioTouch USA, Perfect Profiles, and the American Academy of Micropigmentation. I have received advanced training in all aspects of Aesthetics and Permanent Cosmetics. As well, I have had Paramedical Training in Collagen Induction Therapy or Skin Needling for wrinkles, Dermal Rolling for anti-aging, as well as Scar Camouflaging, Areola Complex Repigmentation, and Tattoo Removal classes.
My love of Skincare is as much about my love of beauty as any of my Make-up practices. To my way of thinking the best foundation is great skin. I have studied advanced Skincare in Oncology Aesthetics, Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion, IPL Treatments, Acneic Skin Conditions, Vascular Blemish Removal, Lymphatic Drainage, Specialized Facial Massage, Far Infrared Treatments, Scar Resurfacing, Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy, and more. Skin that has the most even color possible with the fewest lines and wrinkles is the most attractive - to ourselves and others.
So let's make this happen!
